This 40 S&W cartridge from Sellier & Bellot is crowned with a 180 grain projectile, the original bullet weight for the round when it was first introduced in 1990. The bullet is optimized for self-defense, as its hollow point will cause it to mushroom outward as it burrows through a soft target, bettering its chance of striking a vital organ. The bullet’s jacket is made of 90 percent copper, 10 percent zinc, a tough alloy which is hard enough to facilitate penetration but not so much as to prohibit reliable expansion; the notches around the jacket’s tip control the expansion along predetermined fault lines.
In spite of their attractive price tag, no part of these cartridges evinces anything other than their Czech manufacturer’s eye for fine detail. Each of these rounds’ brass casings have uniform dimensions and are fit for multiple reloads. Their primers are non-corrosive to give them superior shelf life, and their propellant burns clean in order to preserve your weapon’s action and bore.
