The 180 grain HST projectile is a deep cavity hollow point with a jacket and the uniform expansion of the best engineering that Federal has. Combined with the clean, easy-feeding nickel plated brass casings which are easily reloadable, thanks to a Boxer primer, this is a significant round that can not only offer fantastic performance in the most important of situations, but which can be practiced with and still offer some added value with the premium casing, even if it is a bit pricey to play around with the stuff.
The other part to the equation with this ammunition aside from the fantastic expansion performance, is the penetration and static ballistics, which are obviously accurate, as the static turns to the active terminal ballistics, proven in ballistic gelatin tests, where it performs at the highest level. The static performance numbers are as follows: 1010 feet per second velocity and 408 ft. lbs. of energy at the muzzle.
