The HST bullet doesn’t disappoint. It’s a departure from the traditional engineered bullets that are offered from Federal, but it uses a mechanical collar to ensure jackets stay in place and the design offers a very uniform, controlled and likely expansion. That is to say: it’s rare that the projectile does not expand, and it’s even rarer when the uniformity is not spot on, in the recovered bullet.

The round showcased here, features a 125 grain bullet loaded into the super speedy, hard hitting .357 Sig platform and offers up 1360 feet per second velocity and 513 ft. lbs. of energy delivery at the bore exit. This is a substantial load for the .357 Sig even by its own lofty standards. What’s best about this round though is that it’s made by Federal, and they do it right. They even took over 12 years to develop it. The work on the HST projectile started in about 2000. It was released in limited line in 2012. Federal worked out all the kinks; ran it through testing partners including law enforcement channels and has made subtle tweaks to the projectile along the way. Federal also has a pretty incredible reputation for reliability on the other components included in this buildout. The nickel-plated brass casing and Boxer primer offer significant reliability and are easily reloadable. The powder is a lower flash, good burning powder that is made for LE and Home defense/personal protection.
