Here is an interesting fact about lead: The heavy metal begins to vaporize at 752° F. Combustion of a handgun cartridge’s propellant is much hotter than that, which is why you will wind up depositing lead inside your handgun’s barrel while firing FMJ bullets. An FMJ’s exposed lead core also produces a small amount of toxic gas during ignition. Added up over a long time, that much lead gas can do serious damage to your health.
The TMJ does away with both of those shortcomings thanks to one simple trick: Its jacket fully encompasses its lead core. That’s why this clean-shooting 357 Magnum ammo is great for all kinds of target practice, and also limits your exposure to lead while you’re training indoors. The TMJ does behave like an FMJ upon striking soft tissue, however, which is why few would consider it practical for hunting medium-size game.
