The M193 bullet is the simplest kind of bullet a 5.56 round can have. It is an FMJ with a copper alloy jacket and solid lead core – i.e. no steel that would have made it magnetic. The M193 FMJ is capable of terminal fragmentation if it penetrates soft tissue at a velocity higher than approximately 2,500 fps (which this bullet retains enough velocity to do at about 175 yards). We would prefer a soft point or JHP for personal protection, but M193 ammo won’t let you down during a crisis. Certainly works well enough for our own military!
Winchester loads these cartridges with factory fresh brass cases. They are not reloaded; their discoloration is the product of annealing, a process which makes brass stronger and more reliable. Winchester has not loaded a corrosive Boxer primer for several decades, and this ammo is new production.
This ammunition is loaded on stripper clips. That’s not a barbershop staffed by exotic dancers – it’s just a convenient tool to help you load your magazines faster. Better yet, this ammo is packaged in a new production steel ammo can, with a hinged lid that latches tightly shut to block out harmful humidity.
