A very good waterfowl round at a very competitive price, this Federal Waterfowl specific load could be used for other tasks but it is purpose-built for the waterfowl scenario.

3” of Magnum steel shot power evens out the performance concern you might have moving from heavier shot materials (lead, bismuth etc.) in a couple of different ways. Firstly, it offers a larger shot size (#BB); which gives better protection against wind deflection. Secondly, partially due to the lighter weight of the steel shot and a heavier load of powder, it offers a 1550 feet per second velocity out of the muzzle. This allows it to reach the birds faster and maintain the high shot count per pattern consistency this round is intended to deliver. Thirdly, it offers a heavier payload in the form of the 1 and 1/8 ounce cup of steel #BB shot. This payload, centered in a controlled flight wad means your steel shot cup is hitting more birds with more consistent patterning at the same distance you are used to shooting at, without the risk of the lead contamination or the high cost of lead alternatives. This is a pretty sophisticated round for what you are paying.
