This military grade 9mm +P ammo by Sig Sauer makes a great choice for self-defense with any pistol — provided it can handle an overpressure round’s increased chamber pressure, of course. A faster muzzle velocity means better accuracy, a nice thing to have under any circumstances, and more energy to transfer during penetration will neutralize a threat more quickly. But it’s not simply this round’s raw power that earns it its place in an EDC.

This round features a 124 grain V-Crown projectile. Its hollow point nose cavity extends exceptionally deep, and the V-shaped skives that give the bullet its name promote highly uniform expansion along a wide range of velocities. The V-Crown retains its weight to penetrate deeply as well, thanks to the toothed cannelure that girdles the midsection of its shank.

This cartridge is especially well-suited for nighttime defense. Its propellant is formulated to reduce muzzle flash, so a bright blast of light won’t rob you of your night vision after your first trigger pull. Its shiny nickel plated brass shell casing is easier to spot in the chamber as well, and furthermore reduces friction for more certain cycling through a semi-automatic.
