This 8mm Mauser (8×57 IS) cartridge has an FMJBT projectile. It is not ideal for hunting because it can’t expand without a nose cavity, but its long, angled base significantly cuts down on the amount of drag an FMJBT can generate as it whizzes downrange. With its 0.509 G1 ballistic coefficient this round’s bullet needs to rise by no more than 33” to strike a target at 500 yards, and its ability to resist wind deflection will prove a marked advantage as you’re trying to reach the physical boundaries of your rifle range.
