Many shooters mistake the open tip for a hunting or self-defense projectile, but you’re not one of them. That’s because you already know (or are about to find out) that the open tip’s nose cavity is not engineered to unleash terminal expansion during penetration of a soft medium. The small aperture in the bullet’s tip allowed Winchester to pour its lead core in place. The open tip’s core is accordingly form-fitted to its jacket, and therefore perfectly balanced.
The open tip’s rotationally stable core is only one reason for this ammo’s consistent accuracy. The bullet also features a sleek overall profile that ends in a flat base (which provides a clean, even surface for combusting propellant to push against). Winchester also carefully controls this ammo’s bullets’ weights, so each one closely conforms to a 140 grain standard. Winchester’s most accurate range bullet is poised above a match grade primer, with an exactly drawn and tapered reloadable brass case to ensure optimal chambering in any make and model rifle.
