.25 ACP ammo is not a powerhouse cartridge, it’s never been powerful really. But it has a legitimate niche of users that need to be able to rely on it for a variety of different reasons. Speer Gold Dot has those users covered. First it should be noted that the Speer Gold Dot Personal Protection and Law Enforcement lines, across the entire lineups are exceptional cartridges. They are top three for uniformity; reliability; expansion and penetration. The formula that Speer is using and the engineering and component selection is just exceptional. That said, this round is significantly better than most of the competitor rounds available. Remember the .25ACP isn’t known for crazy ballistics. But this Speer ammo is pretty good.

It achieves 900 feet per second and 63 ft. lbs. of energy out of the muzzle. Which is very good for the .25 Auto. The 35 grain hollow point gets actual expansion even at the slightly slow velocities. Certainly the diameter of the wound channel would be significantly better than a hot .22LR, which can achieve nearly double the energy and 1.5 times the velocity generally compared to the .25ACP. The Speer ammunition makes this caliber a bit more effective, which, when you look at the great guns that can be bought in .25ACP, makes it worth taking a look at.
