Power. That’s what Winchester designed this magnum 12 Gauge shotshell to provide, which is why they made it 3” long, loaded it with 15 individual pellets of 00 buck, and gave the 4 dram equivalent shell a muzzle velocity of 1,210 fps. If you count all its pellets together, the approximately 1.85 oz. shot column possesses about 2,623 ft lbs of kinetic energy at the instant it exits the barrel. That puts it on equal footing with a standard 308 Win cartridge.

Winchester didn’t just ensure that this shell patterns tightly by making its lead shot pellets hard and consistently 0.33” in diameter. They also packed the shot column with granulated buffering – spall synthetic pellets which are supple enough to absorb recoil energy before it can compact and deform the shot pellets.

This is a definitive shotshell for hunting deer, and you’d better believe it will knock down a coyote. Some would argue that its recoil would make it too hot to handle during a home defense scenario, but that’s your call to make. Its crimped hull also makes the round easy to reload.
