As Federal’s Syntech line of ammunition has been making successful rounds in the competitive circuit, Federal has added even more features with the Action Pistol extension based on feedback from the most active match shooters. Each of these 9mm Luger rounds is assembled using a traditional brass casing fitted with a non-corrosive, lead-free Catalyst primer. The casing carries a clean-burning load of powder and is crimped to a 150-grain TSJ (total synthetic jacket) projectile which has no exposed lead surfaces. This focus on lead-mitigating components not only makes for cleaner breathing space at indoor ranges but lessens cleaning needs in both firearms and suppressors.
For suppressed use, the heavyweight 9x19mm TSJ precludes supersonic crack thanks to its lower muzzle velocity, while the increased mass is better for knocking down steel targets. This effort is further aided by the Action Pistol TSJ’s addition of a flattened nose which more readily transfers energy to hard surfaces while also carving circular holes in cardboard targets for easy scoring. The TSJ’s polymer coating reduces barrel friction for increased firearm life and accuracy over time while also reducing the chance for ricochets to occur at impacting harder surfaces like hardpack dirt berms and indoor backers. Federal especially formulated this ammo to meet the power factor requirements for USPSA.
