We all know that “Shoot what you
carry” is a maxim that can get very expensive if followed diligently. Fortunately,
Speer has solved this problem for users of its popular Gold Dot personal
defense cartridges by creating Lawman, a series of inexpensive rounds that
mimic the ballistic performance of their corresponding Gold Dot load. This .380
ACP incarnation of Lawman is an excellent practice round for anyone carrying
Gold Dots in their Ruger LCP, Walther PPK, or P238.

Lawman rounds use “total metal
jacket” plating which covers the entire bullet in copper. This renders the
bullet unsuitable for ported barrels, which can shear the copper, but lowers
the cost of the ammo and provides some lead hazard protection for the shooter. Expect
muzzle velocity of about 950 feet per second from this ammo, just like Gold Dot
in .380 Auto. Each cartridge in this box of 50 uses Boxer-primed reloadable
brass cases.

Speer enjoys a strong reputation
among CCW holders and law enforcement officers due to the success of its Gold
Dot personal protection ammunition. A division of Alliant Techsystems, it
operates from its longtime headquarters and production facility in Lewiston,
Idaho, along with sister company CCI. The company was founded in 1944 and built
a thriving bullet-manufacturing business before its successful entry into the
loaded ammo market.
