Winchester is an innovative company, but they also know not to mess around when they’ve got a good thing. Their Silvertip label 45 Auto ammo is a very good thing indeed, as it has remained one of their most popular selections for personal protection for several decades now!

Winchester is also not run by insane people, which is why the Silvertip jacketed hollow point bullet does not actually contain any real silver. The bullet’s handsome glossy jacket is simply plated with aluminum alloy. It doesn’t provide any performance advantages to speak of (but it certainly doesn’t hurt, either).

The Silvertip JHP’s jacket features a profile that is optimized to promote reliable feeding in all semi-automatics, and it additionally sports multiple notches around its rim. These make the jacket weak enough to split down multiple seams during penetration. That helps the hollow point produce faster and wider terminal expansion – precisely the ballistics which neutralize a threat more quickly.

This reloadable brass-cased and noncorrosive Boxer-primed ammo is loaded with clean-burning powder. Expect that 185 grain bullet to achieve a higher muzzle velocity than a 230 grain alternative: 1,000 fps, as opposed to around 830 fps.
