Interesting bit of info- how many of you know that the “06” in .30-06 (affectionately called the thirty-aught-six) is actually the year the round was introduced? Yep! 1906. The “.30” is the caliber of the bullet. The .30-06 Springfield cartridge was introduced by Winchester for the United States Army and was later standardized. It remained in use until the early 1980’s when it got replaced by NATO rounds like the 7.62x51mm (which is also our .308 Winchester) and the 5.56x45mm.
