We’re sure a deadeye like you could use ammo like this to bag a whitetail. That said, this particular round’s JSP bullet really is purpose-built for small game. Its lead core is soft, and its copper jacket thin, and brittle. The bullet starts self-destructing the instant it collides with its prey – ruinous terminal fragmentation as far as coyote and gnawing animals are concerned, but not especially deep penetration like you’d want for large game.
You can find more accurate 243 bullets on the market, but the traditional JSP certainly holds its own. Its thin jacket wall reduces engraving forces to improve accuracy, and its flat base provides the cleanest surface for propellant gasses to thrust against. Don’t go and collect your pelt before you pick up this American-made round’s brass case. It’s new and reloadable!
