This cartridge is loaded with a 147 grain bullet. That’s heavy for the 9mm, so its muzzle velocity is a relatively slow 990 fps, but its muzzle energy significantly exceeds the minimum commonly advised for personal protection. The jacketed hollow point bullet exhibits good weight retention as it penetrates deeply. The JHP’s jacket features multiple symmetrical notches around its rim. These allow the jacket to split apart cleanly as it effectively doubles the JHP’s overall diameter – about 0.7 inches!
