The 9.3x72mm is probably best described as a popular brush gun caliber in Europe. The heavy blunt projectile is particularly effective for use in deer hunting and other intermediate game hunting operations where the landscape of the terrain is particularly densely forested and full of branches and leaves. The underlying performance of the cartridge favors that heavy bullet moving through such obstacles instead of being deflected away from target like a lesser, faster moving round would be. The classic shape and profile of the Rimmed 9.3×72 is about like you would imagine a load from the era that this one originated in.
It’s a classic on the European spectrum of hunting cartridges and offers a relatively graceful, slow rolling performance that many would call mild, considering the heft of the round. It is primarily in use in older sporting weapons like Drilling’s.
