Hornady certainly took a direct approach when they named their Precision Hunter line of ammunition — everything about it is meant to offer hunters with tack driving accuracy. This 6.5mm Creedmoor cartridge features Hornady’s 143 grain ELD-X projectile, which sports a Heat Shield tip that is all but completely immune to the warping effects of aerodynamic heating. This means the tip will stay perfectly pointed and concentric as it zips out of your rifle’s muzzle at a velocity of 2,700 fps, which in conjunction with the bullet’s secant ogive profile streamlines it splendidly. The ELD-X provides devastating terminal performance even at lower velocities by initiating expansion as it is driven into the bullet’s core upon impact, creating a debilitating mushroom with up to 90 percent weight retention at distances greater than 400 yards.
To even further heighten its accuracy, this round also offers a clean burning and uniformly loaded propellant to ensure consistent performance regardless of environmental temperature. Along with its select brass casing and reliable primer, this is the round you want chambered when you line up the trophy of a lifetime in your crosshairs.
