HPBT stands for hollow point boat tail. If you’re newer to the sport of long-range shooting, the HPBT is not the correct bullet for deer hunting or personal defense. It will not expand if it sinks into soft tissue. Igman made this precision bullet’s nonmagnetic copper-alloy jacket first, and then injected boiling lead through its tip’s narrow opening. That is why the HPBT’s lead core is more perfectly fitted to the interior of its sleek, low-drag jacket, which helps keep the bullet balanced in flight.
Military snipers do fire their fair share of 175 grain HPBT ammo, and we are inclined to suppose that Igman has sold plenty of this type of ammo to more than a couple of national governments. These particular cartridges are factory-direct, not military surplus, with sealed, noncorrosive Boxer primers and new reloadable brass cases (discoloration around case neck is result of factory annealing).
