High quality purpose built .308 ammunition to meet most of the demands of deer hunters who prefer the .308 Winchester round for their whitetail work. The Hornady American Whitetail might seem like a marketing scheme, but the basic design and implementation of the cartridge makes it very solid for use on the very thing pictured on the box. Given that the marketing bullet points all match up with a real life set of goals when in the field, looking for that trophy deer, this stuff has delivered on its promises, it seems.
So what’s the promise of the American Whitetail line, and specifically the .308 Win (this round)? For starters, this is a 165 grain soft point projectile with a interlock build, meaning that the weight is not overly havy, but the weight is retained at impact, and the driving ballistics deliver a solid level of penetration, energy and wound channel size. As follows: the velocity is 2700 feet per second at the muzzle; the energy, a stout 2670 ft. lbs. The trajectory is dead even at ZERO drop at 200 yards, and can deliver such performance time and again thanks to the high level quality control and exacting measurements for powder and projectile at the Hornady production plants.
