The molded polymer tip of the Hornady ELD-X projectile tells the complete story before you even get to the other premium aspects of the round. Consistency is the name of the game when it comes to accuracy, uniformity of expansion and weight retention/delivery on target. The polymer tip does wonders for ballistic coefficient, wind shedding and above all, consistency in shape, weight and flight.
The tiny tip adheres to a rigid structure that is impossible to achieve with the malleable copper and lead design of traditional bullets. It does so without having heavy weight, allows uniform deformation and sheds wind at distances that modern hunters and target shooters are extending out to now. That says nothing of the need for threat interdiction at increased ranges for law enforcement as tactics evolve to keep police officers safer.
Perhaps more than anything, this projectile design represents the next big wave of consistency in bullet manufacturing when accuracy must be as close to perfect as possible. For now though: the 300 Winchester Magnum in 200 grain ELD-X with all of its great consistency is paired with other ultra premium components to produces a startlingly accurate load of a round that already had long range street cred.
