This 243 Win cartridge by Hornady features a 90 grain ELD-X (Extremely Low Drag – eXpanding) projectile. The ELD-X is what you get when one of America’s premier bullet manufacturers sets out to give hunters the solution for taking game at virtually any range. It’s got its accuracy chops down pat thanks to the high ballistic coefficient it enjoys from its boat tail base and secant ogive profile. Its AMP jacket is concentric to let it stay its course, and its meplat’s symmetry won’t be impacted by aerodynamic heating courtesy of its proprietary Heat Shield tip.
When the ELD-X hits its mark after having traveled farther than about 400 yards, its polymer tip’s function extends to the initiation of wide, devastating expansion. Even at closer distances the ELD-X is able to deliver some expansion, and in any event the bullet’s InterLock ring binds its core and jacket together to bring about the weight retention that is indispensable for deep penetration. So state of the art a bullet does well to be matched with Hornady’s finest brass casing, non-corrosive primer, and propellant that doesn’t lose its consistent performance in response to the temperature it’s ignited in.
